North Sea Wall

To protect Holland from killer floods that have drowned vast swathes of land and claimed thousands of lives, the Dutch have built giant concrete and steel sea walls stretching the length of the coastline. Together they make up one of the largest man-made constructions on Earth.

With two giant gates each almost the size of the Eiffel tower, the surge barrier is the most complex ocean defense structure ever built.
